The Federal Practice Committee and the Nebraska State Bar Association’s Appellate Practice Section will co-sponsor a continuing legal education program on November 30, 2018, entitled, "A HISTORY OF THE FEDERAL DISTRICT COURT AND LESSONS LEARNED FROM PRACTICING BEFORE THE HONORABLE LAURIE SMITH CAMP," on November 30, 2018. The presentation will be held at the Roman L. Hruska United States Courthouse in Omaha.

1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m.: Echo of Its Time: A History of the Federal District Court for the District of Nebraska This presentation will explore the development of the U.S. District Court for the District of Nebraska from its inception in 1867 through 1933. Co-authors of the book “Echo of Its Time,” Dr. John R. Wunder (UN-L) and Dr. Mark R. Scherer (UN-O), and attorney/historian Nick Batter will discuss the social and political context of the most notable cases of the era. The hour will conclude with the unveiling of three historic judicial portraits.

2:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.: Lessons Learned from Practicing Before the Honorable Laurie Smith Camp Attorneys Karen Keeler, Patricia Kiscoan, Susan Lehr, David M. Newman, and Jeffrey L. Thomas will discuss how the Honorable Laurie Smith Camp has made a positive impact on the legal profession and share what they learned as a result of practicing before her.

From 3:00 to 5:00, Judge Smith Camp will host a reception in the court’s atrium, open to all members of the bar and court staff.
