1. BIENNIAL (2009/2010) ASSESSMENT

Pursuant to NEGenR 1.7(h), the court requires that all attorneys enrolled in the bar of this court pay a biennial assessment; this rule does not apply to attorneys who are employed by the federal government or a state, county, city, or local government.  The proceeds of this assessment are used to defray the cost of maintaining the roll of attorneys admitted to practice before this court, to reimburse appointed counsel for reasonable expenses incurred in representing indigent litigants, and to fund the Federal Practice Fund.

This year, you may update your information and pay the fee online.  Instructions are available on the court's Web site at: http://www.ned.uscourts.gov/cmecf/Biennial_Assessment_Fee.pdf.  Please complete the renewal process by March 1, 2009.  Law firms with more than one attorney admitted to this court will need to complete the online process for each attorney.

The Federal Practice Committee decided during its August 15, 2008, meeting to compile a current list of attorneys who are willing to accept appointments in civil in forma pauperis cases.  When completing the renewal process online, you will be prompted to answer the following question: "Are you willing to accept appointments in civil in forma pauperis cases?"  For information regarding compensation of court-appointed counsel, please see the court's Amended Plan for the Administration of the Federal Practice Fund available on the court's Web site at http://www.ned.uscourts.gov/pom/crtplans/fedpract.pdf.

If you have any questions, please contact the clerk's office at 1-866-220-4381 (Omaha) or 1-866-220-4379 (Lincoln).

2. PUBLIC COURT CALENDAR

The U.S. District Court has adopted the Calendar Events Report in CM/ECF as the court's public calendar.  PACER users will not incur any fees when running the report unless they access a specific docket sheet from a case displayed in the report.  The public may also access the report at the public terminals in the Omaha and Lincoln clerk's offices.  NOTE: Sealed hearings will not appear on the calendar.

Follow these steps to run the report:

  1. Log in to the court's CM/ECF system at http://ecf.ned.uscourts.gov.
  2. Click Reports.
  3. Click Calendar Events.
  4. Set the date range.
  5. Click Run Report.

The court will make every effort to ensure the accuracy of the information in the report, but certain circumstances may prevent the timely entry of information into CM/ECF.  A court hearing may still be scheduled even though a search returns no results.  For the most accurate information about court hearings, contact the clerk's office at 1-866-220-4381 (Omaha) or 1-866-220-4379 (Lincoln).

Thank you,
United States District Court Clerk's Office
