1. Press Release - Schedule for the Appointment for Magistrate Judge and Appointment of Merit Selection Panel

Chief Judge Bataillon today announced a schedule for the appointment of a judge to succeed Magistrate Judge David L. Piester, who retired on August 1, 2009.  Judge Bataillon also announced the names of the members of the merit selection panel that will recommend to the court five individuals thought qualified to fill the position.  The schedule and the members of the panel were decided by the unanimous vote of the district judges.  Applications are due on or before September 25, 2009, and should be mailed to Gabriela Acosta, Technical Writer.  The application form, press release, public notice, General Order 2009-07 appointing a merit selection panel, and the merit selection panel list are available on the Court's Web site at > "Public Notice and Application for Appointment of Magistrate Judge."

Pursuant to the retirement of Magistrate Judge David L. Piester on August 1, 2009, all civil and criminal cases previously assigned to Judge Piester are reassigned to District Judge Richard G. Kopf.  Judge Kopf will handle pretrial management in new civil and criminal cases assigned to Judges Kopf and Urbom in accordance with NEGenR 1.4(a)(2) and NECivR 72.1 until a new magistrate judge is appointed.
