Planned Parenthood

University of Nebraska Medical Center - Maternal Care Program

4400 Emile Street - 559-4500: Services include financial assessment, assistance with Medicaid applications, information and referral to community agencies, nutrition education, WIC vouchers, and patient advocacy. The program is primarily intended for populations that traditionally experience barriers to care, but all women are welcome. Telephone Assistance

Nebraska Public Service Commission - Nebraska Telephone Assistance Program

1-800-526-0017: Assists low income individuals with obtaining and keeping telephone services by lowering monthly service and connection rates. Also provides reduced installation charges. To be eligible for the program an individual must be receiving assistance from Medicaid, SNAP (Food Stamps), Supplemental Security Income, Federal Public Housing Assistance, Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program, or Children’s Health Insurance Programs. Transportation

Heartland Family Service - Ways to Work

(712) 435-5368: The purpose of Ways to Work program is to help low-income parents to buy reliable transportation necessary to remain employed and take their children to doctor appointments, daycare, school, and to access goods and services. Loans as much as $6,000 are available to qualifying working residents of Pottawattamie & Mills Counties in Iowa and Douglas, Sarpy & Washington Counties in Nebraska. The program does not compete with mainstream loan programs, but rather offers an alternative for high-risk people with a demonstrated commitment to achieving increased self-sufficiency, and who are intent on pursuing a higher degree of success in mainstream financial markets. Loans must be repaid and case management services provide support to ensure successful repayment of the loan. Offices are located in Omaha and in Council Bluffs. Qualified residents are employed at least 20 hours a week for 6 months, the custodial parent of a child under 18 years of age, have a valid driver's license, an income 80% or less of the area's median income, and a challenged credit history. 1616 Cass Street - (402) 345-8047: Offers free Metro Area Transit bus passes for qualified individuals who have started a new job, but do not have reliable transportation. Free passes are intended to assist until the individual receives a paycheck. To receive assistance, you will need a photo id, social security card for everyone living in your house, and a current piece of mail dated within the last 30 days. Youth - Mentors

Heart Ministry Center

2222 Binney Street - 451- 2321: Youth males ages 7-16 and their mentors spend time completing various tasks in a group setting. A majority of these activities take place on a farm outside of Omaha and include such tasks as building birdhouses and planting trees. Once the designated task has been completed, participants fish or take part in sports and activities with their mentors. www.heartministrycenter.org
