1. Amendments to the Local Rules.

On October 24, the Judicial Council approved amendments to the local rules, with an effective date of December 1, 2014. To comment on the amendments, go to http://www.ned.uscourts.gov/internetDocs/localrules/summary_2014_amendme.... Comments should be posted by November 30. Counsel should make special note of the changes to Nebraska Civil Rule 6.1 (removing the authority formerly given the clerk’s office to grant an extension of time to answer or reply) and Nebraska General Rule 1.7(d) (simplifying the procedure for seeking admission to the court’s bar).

2. North Platte Federal Courthouse Closed.

The U.S. District and Bankruptcy Courts will formally release their space in the North Platte Federal Building on November 28. All future North Platte trials and hearings will take place at the Lincoln County Courthouse, with the gracious permission of the Lincoln County state court judges. The court was able to excess much of its property and equipment to the Lincoln County Courthouse.

3. Revised Supplemental Questionnaire.

The judges have approved a revision of the supplemental juror questionnaire.

The revised supplemental questionnaire is now included in the court’s online juror qualification application, eJuror.

4. Biennial Attorney Assessment.

The clerk’s office will send out notices for the 2015-2016 biennial attorney assessment in late December. Starting this year, attorneys will be required to pay the $20 assessment through pay.gov.

5. NextGen CM/ECF.

The Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts is currently developing the next generation of the Case Management/Electronic Case Filing system (NextGen CM/ECF). NextGen is currently running in the Second and Ninth Circuit Courts of Appeal. The District of Nebraska anticipates receiving the program for testing in spring 2015.
