On July 7, 2014, the Eighth Circuit Judicial Council approved the request of the United States District Court for the District of Nebraska to release its space in the North Platte Federal Building.

The court will continue to hold trials and hearings in western Nebraska, thanks to a generous arrangement with the state court judges of Lincoln County, Nebraska. All North Platte trials and hearings in the U.S. District and Bankruptcy Courts scheduled after October 1, 2014, will be held in the Lincoln County Courthouse in North Platte.

The timeline for the North Plate space release is as follows:

1.  August 1, 2014: GSA is officially notified that the court intends to release the space in the federal building. The court then has 120 days to vacate.

2.  October 1, 2014: The court shuts down operations at the North Platte Federal Building. All trials and hearings scheduled on or after October 1 will be re-scheduled at the Lincoln County Courthouse.

3.  November 28, 2014: The court officially releases the North Platte space to GSA. In addition to the North Platte space, the court is also releasing a small, seldom-used courtroom in the Lincoln Denney Building, courtroom 3. No hearings will held in courtroom 3 after October 1, 2014.
