BEST PRACTICES FORUM

The United States District Court will hold CM/ECF "Best Practices" Forums in 2009.  The 3 ½ hour forums will provide attorneys and law firm staff with an opportunity to ask questions and share their knowledge of electronic filing and courtroom technology.  We encourage all attorneys, law clerks, legal secretaries and paralegals to attend.  There is no cost to attend a forum.  Seating is limited so register early!

Workshop A--Courtroom Technology
This session will demonstrate some of the technology available in the courtrooms

  • Connecting your laptop to courtroom displays
  • Playing DVDs
  • Jury deliberation technology pilot
  • Digital audio and preserving the record

Workshop B--Adobe PDF Workshop
This hands-on session will provide tips for working with PDF documents in Adobe Acrobat.
  • Reducing file size
  • Managing large documents
  • Creating hyperlinks to other filings
  • Creating bookmarks within PDF documents
  • Redaction

Workshop C--CM/ECF Review and Version 4.0 Sneak Preview
This session will review some areas of common confusion in CM/ECF and offer a sneak preview of the new features available in version 4.0.  We will wrap up by allowing you to ask questions of the court and your colleagues and share your own best practices and lessons learned. 
  • Sealed vs restricted pleadings
  • Searching in CM/ECF
  • Demonstration of CM/ECF 4.0 (scheduled for Fall 2009 release)
  • The future of CM/ECF
  • Q&A time
