The UN-L College of Law, Creighton Law College, the Nebraska State Court Administrator's Office (Judy Beutler), and the Nebraska Bar Association (Liz Neely) were represented, distributing information regarding the educational/employment opportunities they offer. Cheryl gathered information concerning list-serves used by minority focus groups for possible posting of employment opportunities, and noted similar upcoming events at Omaha's Urban League and Chicano Awareness Center. 10/02/2006 September 28-29, 2006: Mary Buckley, career clerk from Judge Smith Camp Chambers, attended American Management Association seminar on "Managing Multicultural Teams for Peak Performance," and gathered ideas for successful recruitment and retention of minority employees. Judge Smith Camp
10/06/2006 Yador Harrell and Mike Kuhn (clerk for Judge Smith Camp) attended the Second Annual Nebraska Legal Diversity Summit in Omaha. Summit activities include panel discussion on the hiring and retention of attorneys of color, and networking/interviews with law students of color. Judge Smith Camp
10/20/2006 October 16-18, 2006: Pam Jedlicka attended the Workplace Diversity Conference facilitated by the Society for Human Resource Management in Los Angeles, California. The conference provided strategies for maximizing diversity in the workplace. Judge Smith Camp

01/22/2007 Judge Smith Camp registered with the Just The Beginning Foundation (JTBF) and submitted a Judicial Request for Referral form. The foundation is a national judicial externship program designed to place qualified minority law students in judicial chambers. 05/07/2007 The Court welcomed Gabriela Acosta, Technical Writer, to the Court staff. Gabriela is fluent in Spanish, and has advanced degrees in English Literature, Political Science, and Law. Judge Smith Camp

06/14/2007 The Court announced plans for a 2007 Day of Diversity on August 2 (Lincoln) and August 8 (Omaha). The focus of this event is cultural enrichment. The announcement provided a website, http://www.ned.circ8.dcn/user/diversity/diversity_day.ppt or http://www.ned.circ8.dcn/user/diversity/diversity_day.pdf, so that people could learn more about the day's activities. The program provided an understanding of the interrelationships and importance of respect for diversity in the workplace, and how that enhances the workplace environment. 07/27/2009 Strategic Planning Retreat: Because of the court’s inability to accurately compute the percentage of underrepresented groups for the total applicant pool, the judges decided to eliminate the applicant-pool portion of the goal. The court will continue to pursue diverse applicants through recruitment efforts and will continue to pursue its goal to increase the representation of racial and ethnic groups among court employees, including chambers, to 20%.
